We're shortlisted for The European Hotel Design Awards! Thank you to the European Hotel Design Awards for shortlisting Clodagh Design in the Spa & Wellness category for SixSenses Douro Valley! Congratulations Six Senses.
Six Senses Douro Valley also named on Condé Nast Traveler's 2016 Hot List We are delighted that our work for Six Senses Douro Valley was featured on this elite list that recognizes the world’s top 60 hotels and resorts. Designed with wellness, sustainability and authenticity at the forefront, the resort provides a platform to further steward a brand that I feel such kinship and synchronicity towards- and in one of the best wine areas in the world!
A key element of the Resort is the Vale d’Abraão Open Kitchen and Dining Room that provides all day local dining. We were so excited that we turned the tennis court into an entire organic garden that harvests beautiful fresh produce. With the pool so close to the garden, swimmers will also rejoice in the serenity (vegetables are quiet, tennis balls are not). Join a small group for a meal that is prepared and hosted by the chef right before your eyes.
Forbes Magazine: "Clodagh Design changed the look for the better"
Thank you to Forbes.com for their article on the Six Senses Douro Valley being the ultimate scenic wellness break. "Clodagh Design changed the look for the better. The Irish designer, known for using warm earth tones and inviting textures, applied that design style here and added touches from the region: azulejo tiles, antique farm implements, cork ceilings. The overall effect is an enveloping blend of warm/homey and chic."
Our designs for EAST, Miami hotel unveiled
EAST, Miami has already been hailed as one of the hottest luxury hotel complexes now opened in the city - a 352-room hotel marking the Swire Hotels' EAST brand first U.S foray. Thank you to Spafinder Wellness 365 for covering Clodagh Design in EAST’s rise as "a new moment in Miami’s urban upbringing, reflecting interiors more prominent in prime city markets", and drawing attention to our studio's much-loved pool experience that emphasizes sensory experiences: "Four pools make up the deck: A lap pool, spa pool, cold plunge, and hot tub answer year-round aquatic yearnings. Loungers can sit in the sun or shade, accented by a dramatic concrete overhang."
92nd Street Y Panel: Transforming Spaces
It was a pleasure speaking at the 92nd Street Y panel in June with such talented colleagues. Jeffrey Beers, Founder and CEO at Jeffrey Beers International, Amy Lau, founder of Amy Lau Design, Russell Groves, Principal At Groves & Co. and I gathered at the Warburg Lounge to discuss the leading trends and issues in the world of interior design with event moderator and Elle Decor Editor-in-Chief Michael Boodro.

Clodagh & Trueform: Rosé and Concrete
Thank you to those who joined us for the launch of our Trueform Concrete Clodagh Collection. We celebrated the partnership with a delightful rosé wine and vegan cuisine catering from Franchia Vegan Cafe!
The reasons that I have partnered with Trueform are a combination of long years of working successfully with them and also that I finally found a group who is as madly in love with concrete as I am! The Trueform team are real artists in their own right and will gleefully tackle any challenges.
The latest collection is currently available to see in our studio by appointment or online booking.

Thorn Tree Breakfast Bracelets featured in this month's Harper's Bazaar
What a thrill to see our handmade Thorn Tree Breakfast Bracelets in the current August issue of Harper’s Bazaar. The magazine includes large images of two of the bracelets, and explains how the purchase of one Breakfast Bracelet for $25 provides breakfast for a Thorn Tree child every day for one full year. Best of all is that the bracelets are recommended by Ellen Levine, editorial director of Hearst Magazines. The Samburu ladies who make the bracelets in Kenya will be delighted when our Founder Jane Newman brings them the magazine! There are our colorful bracelets in “The News: Where Fashion Meets Culture” section of Bazaar amidst products from Dior, Chanel and news of the latest and trendiest in art, literature and music. It is truly Samburu meets high fashion!
Thorn Tree Project Pop-up Dinner
A big thank you to Tucker Robbins for hosting our Thorn Tree pop-up dinner at his fabulous furniture showroom in New York. We are very excited about the new sponsorships and funds that were so generously donated.

Spotlight on Lori Lum Board Member of The Thorn Tree Project Lori Lum is a transplanted "California girl" who grew up in LA and now lives in New York with her husband and daughter. She is always counted on to be the most indefatigable and enthusiastic one in her volunteer work for Thorn Tree, where she is in charge of all of the graphics. She's also known for the fabulous food that she likes to provide for Thorn Tree events and her ability to wrangle our great volunteers- all this in addition to her real job in advertising as Chief Talent Magnet at Gyro, New York!

Spotlight on Linda Pagan Board Member of The Thorn Tree Project Linda Pagan owns the popular The Hat Shop NYC in Manhattan and is widely known as "the hat guru". She has spent much of her spare time on the ground in Kenya with the wonderful Samburu children of Thorn Tree, where she informally adopted five boys and also sponsors another two, Fabelly and Maximilian. Originally from the UK, Linda moved to the US with her family when she was a teenager and spent time working on Wall Street before opening her shop. If you're ever at Ascot, you are sure to see her hats wandering around atop distinguished guests' heads.

Artwork from the Ndonyo Wasin primary school
It is always so rewarding to receive updates like the below drawings from the children of Thorn Tree Project’s primary school sponsorships. David Ashen, Thorn Tree Board Member and Amy Goldfine sponsor the Grade 2 class at the Ndonyo Wasin primary school- a class that is clever, hardworking and enormously grateful for their chance to go to school, with most of them first-generation school-goers. Donations are crucial to their success and education- click here to learn more about sponsorship through Thorn Tree Project.

Clodagh shares her current reads
by Michael Clinton
I loved Michael Clinton’s new book The Hamptons, published by Glitterati Incorporated. Traveler extraordinaire Michael has returned with a stunning new series that begins with The Hamptons. He is an accomplished photographer and uses his unique eye to transform ordinary, everyday moments into insightful and very inspiring images!
Nora Webster by Colm Tóibín
Written by one of my homeland’s greatest contemporary writers, Colm Tóibín, Nora Webster is a brilliant, low- key novel about a County Wexford woman whose life is in flux. Recently widowed and on her own for the first time, Nora Webster finds a strength and independence that she never knew she had. She surprises herself and everyone who knows her.
Colm Tóibín’s prose is so eloquently quiet and lyrical that readers won’t realize how profound this novel is until they think about it afterwards. Tóibín’s masterful writing and his complicated characters will remain in your thoughts for a long time. Nora Webster is one of the most rewarding 'reads' I have had in a long time.
Lighting Science HealthE™ Genesis Lamp
There is an emerging movement: healthy lighting. It’s as if the world has just woken up to the fact that light is keeping us awake at night. More accurately, blue light is keeping us awake by flooding into our lives from TVs, mobile devices, common household incandescent bulbs and harsh office fluorescents. These lights are taking their toll on our cognitive functions and immune systems by blocking healthy hormone production and knocking us off our circadian rhythm. The price is steep, our mental and physical well-being.
The geniuses at Lighting Science have invented patented spectrum-controlled LED's that can mimic the sun when we want and need it most, while blocking the harmful blue spectrum of light that can negatively impact sleep.

The highlight of the space is a spectacular mural ceiling reminiscent of a Korean Palace. It is a beautiful and unique space for a relaxing dining experience.

Meditation at the Clodagh Design studio
We believe that meditation is an integral part of maintaining wellness. Cobi Konadu brings wellness and healing into our studio through the use of Jin Shin Jyutsu, a Japanese healing art. She provides companies and their employees with hands on self-help methods to alleviate daily tension, stress and fatigue through the utilization of their own touch; putting the power of maintaining one’s health back in their own hands. "When form is reduced to simple shapes, then basic elements of art like, balance, rhythm, harmony, and beauty are revealed. My sculptures are mathematical by nature, and look interesting from all angles. I’m interested in the interplay of form and space, and the relationship of basic shapes and universal beauty." -David Link
Goodbye: Billy Name Last month the world said goodbye to renowned American photographer, filmmaker and lighting designer Billy Name. A lover, confidant and right-hand man of pop artist Andy Warhol, Billy was responsible for many of the most famous photographs of the Warhol entourage, including Lou Reed, Nico and Bob Dylan. Billy's photographs capture and immortalize the darkly glamorous Factory years that are iconic to 1960's New York.
The Godfather of street photography, Bill Cunningham was as synonymous with New York as Lady Liberty herself. After dropping out of Harvard University in 1948, the Boston-born photographer's career spanned hat-making, advertising, publishing and photography. A true creative, Cunningham's passing is the end of an era. I will miss him forever.
“I let the street speak to me, and in order for the street to speak to you, you’ve got to stay out there and see what it is.” – Bill Cunningham
On show until November 27, this retrospective exhibition features the early works of Diane Arbus when she was still an emerging artist, reflecting on her development into one of the world's most respected and boundary-pushing photographers.
